A Beer for Every Fan at Euro 2008
Euro 2008 is sounding better by the day. Not only will this summer’s tournament be steroid-free and idiot-proof, but there’ll also so be beer. And not just any beer: team beer. Three Austrian breweries are working together (aw!) to produce 16 different beer bottles, each featuring a flag from one of the Euro 2008 teams.
For example, if you’re a Czech fan you’ll be drinking your beer from a bottle with the Czech flag on it (and if you are a Czech fan, then you’ll be probably be doing so quite regularly.) If you’re Swedish, you’ll be drinking beer with a Swedish flag on it. And if you’re English… well, nevermind.
There could be problems though. What if you’re thirsty and the only beer around carries the flag of another team? Would French fans drink beer with an Italian flag on it? Or would they rather go thirsty?
Of course it’s all just the same stuff with different labels on it. But the three breweries of Stift Schägl, Braucommune Freistadt and Hofstetten promise the beer will have a “light bit rich taste,” and whether that beer tastes like victory or defeat will all depend on what your team does on the pitch.

They just keep creating more reasons for me to be disappointed the Scots missed out on Euro 2008 … beer PLUS collectible bottles? That combines my love of beer with that of collecting more stuff I don’t need. I’d like to see a Scottish brewery make a special extra-bitter just for the occasion. That seems appropriate.
