Alcoholics In Vienna Will Be A Bit Lighter In The Wallet
Austria has decided to take measures to curb the adult beverage consumption during the tournament this summer by jacking up the price of booze in Vienna and the drunks good people of the city are mighty unhappy. Instead of paying the standard 3.10 euros for a large, foamy class of delicious nectar as is the case in most other host cities, they’ll have to fork over a hefty 4.50 to fill their souls.
* – No clue if they’ve asked Ronaldo Koeman to stay home or not.
“We don’t want to encourage alcoholism and there will be four free drinking fountains where fans can drink Vienna water which is of excellent quality,” said Anja Richter of the Vienna Euro 2008 organising committee.
Listen, I don’t know what planet this lady is from, but beer isn’t always consumed to quench one’s thirst (more often than not, surely – I know I love to come back from a long run and pop open a Heineken). And while the tap in Vienna is undoubtedly fantastic – like bubbling brook tinged with the sweat of scantily-clad supermodels fantastic – it ain’t no brew for those looking to partake.
And also….four drinking fountains? What is this, a school field trip? Aren’t there going to be a ton of people at this thing?
The end of the article is awesome. Nothing like throwing in a nugget about the Vienna Boys’ Choir in an article about beer.
The Vienna boys’ choir and Vienna Symphony orchestra will perform at the fan zone’s opening ceremony for the tournament.
So if you plan on attending the Euros and typically smell like Christian Slater by mid-afternoon, might we suggest doing so in Switzerland.
Well at Fenway Park in Boston, it’s $7.50 for a beer thats about half a pint. Everything at the stadiums here is extremely expensive, a water that would notmally be $1.50 is 4. , hot dogs are $6.50, when they usually would be around $2. So i’m used to it.
