Awards of the Day: June 19th
Player of the Day: Bastian Schweisteiger. How quickly he goes from goat to hero. Streaked in for the first, curled in the free kick for the second and made a nuisance of himself. Sending Mario Gomez to the bench in his favor looks to have been a smart move, although even a blind monkey could’ve seen that one.
Player of the Day Award Revoked Award: Bastian Schweinsteiger, for wearing that hat.
New Player of the Day: Michael Ballack. Because he scored a goal, led the charge and didn’t wear that hat. Last one being the most important.
Trooper of the Day: Jens Lehmann’s wife. Conny fainted during the game today, presumably while a savable shot was heading towards her hubby.
Best Use of Eyeliner: Nuno Gomes. Laurie thinks he uses eyeliner and has “delicate features”, which is code for “girly”.
Least Likely Run From A CenterBack: Metzelder in the 10th minute. Darted through Portugal’s midfield like he was a pacy winger or something. Christoph was a couple stepovers and twelve pounds of hair gel away from being mistaken for Crissy Ron.
Unsurprising Stat of the Day: Two set piece goals for Germany. Not saying they were completely his fault, but Ricardo just, well, sucks ass at set pieces. Let’s just say NOBODY should be surprised.
Epic Brain Flatulence Award: Per Mertesacker, for committing then uncommitting on the Nuno Gomes goal, leaving Jens out to dry with Ronaldo bearing down 1v1 and a lottery winning rebound on the way. Oh and he’s on my fantasy team. Nice.
The Imaginary Sniper Award: Who else? Cristiano Ronaldo. Early in the second half there was a very delayed and very animated reaction to a foul. This kid is destined for C-list Hollywood films when his career is over.
Screw You Award: Helder Postiga, for screwing up my predicted 3-1 scoreline.
(Kidding, I like Postiga.)
Matchup of the Day: Bastian Schweini’s girlfriend Sarah Brandner v random Portuguese fan.
And if you’d like a splendid picture of Bastian’s girlfriend with two handfuls of sensual goodness, might I suggest checking out Jan’s Germany post?

C. Ronaldo had his foot stepped on. It hurts. He wasn’t acting, surprisingly.
Also, Schweinsteiger’s hat is awesome. No hatin’! Hehe.

I’m sure it hurt, but the reaction was so delayed and so dramatic it’s impossible to believe it was completely due to genuine pain.
Clearly we need video evidence.

German girl wins that matchup by 3 goals…
Schweisteiger isn’t the only German cowboy…Here’s Andreas “The Cowbhoy” Hinkel http://youtube.com/watch?v=x91rBHawapY

damn that girl is hot. not bastian’s girlfriend, the other one.

no seriously, FUCK that hat! shit has got to go.

The Portugese girl looks like a Pirate… No? Just me that thinks that?
And C.Ron’s foot WAS stepped on but it was a BIT much… I mean when I saw him writhing on the floor, I thought somebody was eating him or something. Everyone has had their foot stepped on… I don’t believe I’ve EVER had that reaction. And I’m a wuss. ^-^

Dear Chris,
Ronaldo’s reaction wasn’t a delayed one..After the original foul, he just fell to the ground, it was only after his foot got stamped on, that he then showed pain…Sure, it was exaggerated…but it was a reaction to his feet being stepped on, not a reaction to the original foul..so it wasn’t a delayed reaction like what you described.
Clearly, you were on your toilet break during the video replay.

Tiger Woods couldn’t be a soccer player as he’s obviously too tough for it.

If C.Ron didn’t react the referee would never know Friedrich stepped on him. It’s the intelligent thing to do.
Also, German chick by a country mile.

“If C.Ron didn’t react the referee would never know Friedrich stepped on him. It’s the intelligent thing to do.”
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on a football blog. Are you implying that referees are likely to make a decision based on a player’s reaction, even if they hadn’t seen the supposed stamp? And especially on the reaction of Cristiano Ronaldo?
If the ref didn’t see it, he’s not going to award anything. Fact.
Also, it was a major overreaction. Ronaldo, stop your whinging, get on a plane to Madrid, let your career decompose and United can have lots of fun with £60m in the transfer market.

No Sheps, Ronaldo was just bringing the stamp to the Ref’s attention. If he Ronaldo, just walked to the ref and told him ‘I just got stamped on’, the ref would not have believed him. Although it was an over-reaction by some mile, it was still required, as no officials saw the incident (bring in video replays!!!)

dude, tell me Ricardo isn’t the greatest wingman on the planet? you think Schwieini would have landed that girl without three goals against portugal? he should be thanking Retardo for his poor positioning every night.
