With Czechoslovakia up 4-3 on penalties in the 1976 European Championships final, Antonin Panenka stepped up to take the fifth and potentially decisive penalty against German keeper Sepp Maier. what happened next, above, is seen as one of the most iconic penalties of all time. Not to mention a blueprint for extra confident youngsters, particularly Francesco Totti, who has now become well known for his patented cucchiaio. And last summer Italian hitman Graziano Pelle unearthed one against Portugal in the U-21 Euro Championships.
Goalkeepers may not like it, but we’d like to thank Mr. Panenka for his contribution to the game.

We have a competition on a national television here in Croatia where famous players and coaches pick their top EURO goals ever. Anyway this goal came up, and the coach who selected it actually said that , before celebrating of course, he would indeed slap Panenka for pulling out a stunt like that on his teammates and fans. He was dead serious as well:)
