Classic Euro Moments: Zlatan In 2004

May 5th, 2008 | By: Chris | 5 Comments »

If it weren’t for this goal, Italy would have gone through in Portugal in 2004 - though they certainly had many other opportunities to get the job done. The story goes: Italy had the lead through an Antionio Cassano “header” which grazed the longest of his hairs, when in the 85th this clusterfuck happened. Enter the highest of high world class athletic ability and Sweden took a point back to their hotel before making their way into the knockouts.

And just this weekend Zlatan has announced he’ll be ready to go for Swissaustria, having adequately recovered from his injuries. Will he produce another goal like this? Probably not. But “Ibracadabra” will surely bring some magic.

Ibra pushed Buffon…so I still don’t see how that goal was allowed. Isn’t that goalie interference?

Ibra pushed Buffon? How do you figure? Buffon was rushing into Ibra. Ibra in no way obstructed the ‘keeper from making a play at the ball, he simply got to the ball first.

I Scratched my head and wonder why Trap took of Cassano? If Cassano stayed on Sweden would have been on the back foot for the entire game. I would to see Italy play Sweden and Denmark again because of thier “tie”.
