Euro 2008 Teams in Action Next Week

March 19th, 2008 | By: Daryl | 2 Comments »

Domenech England like Euro 2008 opponentsThis time next week, all the Euro 2008 teams will be involved in international friendlies. Some will play each other, some will be play against non-Euro 2008 teams.

France arguably has the best game in terms of preparation, as Les Bleus face England at Stade de France. Certainly Ray-Ray Domenech thinks so, predicting that “Against England, we will have to play as if we were in the Euro finals.” England (incorrectly) expected to be at the big show this summer, until a combination of Steve and McClaren scuppered that. But now they’re rebuilding under Fabio Capello and of all the teams in action this weekend, England players probably have the most to prove.

We’re still waiting on Fabio Capello to name his squad, but the game could also see David Beckham get his 100th England cap.

We’ll build up to the friendlies involving Euro 2008 teams throughout the week, but here’s a quick rundown of the fixtures. Euro 2008 teams in bold.

Austria v Holland
Belarus v Turkey
Denmark v Czech Republic
France v England
Poland v USA
Portugal v Greece
Romania v Russia
Scotland v Croatia
Spain v Italy
Sweden v Brazil
Switzerland v Germany

Let’s see … Croatia beat England in the Euro qualies, Scotland beat France in the Euro qualies … if France beat England and Scotland beat Croatia, then I think its clear who’s the best of the British sides.

God, it hurts to see that non-bold print. So close. 2-0 to Georgia … *shakes head and leaves*

Despite it being the national stadium, the Stade de France is basically an away stadium for the France NT. Seriously. England might have more supporters than Les Bleus, and don’t be surprised if La Marseillaise is booed like it was the last couple of times.

Portugal vs. Greece will be interesting. Euro 2004 memories and all.
