Some news to read as you re-elect your dead mayor:
- Don’t forget our Fake Photo Competition! (Euro 2008 blog)
- Can the Dutch change Europe? (Or: Sayonara, catenaccio?) (Soccer Mad in America)
- How did the Group B keepers do? (Keeper Skool)
- Why Euros should be important for DC United fans (The DCenters)
- The answer to France’s problems? Sebastien Chabal! (What do you mean, wrong sport?) (France blog)
- Euro 2008 coverage by SkySports is pathetic (EPL Talk)
- When Austria was good at football (BBC Blog)
- What should Netherlands do against Romania? (Netherlands blog)
Two big problems with the “changing Europe” article:
Sayonara catenaccio? The Netherlands haven’t been playing catenaccio per se, but the great majority of their valid *cough* goals have come off the counterattack against teams throwing everybody forward. They’re undoubtedly a skillful and technical side, but they are not a Brazil or a Total Football 70s Holland side.
Also, they were saying the same things about the Netherlands changing the game in Euro2000, until Italy beat them in that ridiculous shootout match. A strong defense is what wins in soccer. And plainly, one of those doesn’t exist in this tournament.
might wanna check that keeper skool link
Thanks, Sam. Will do.
