EuroVision: Disappointment in Bleu

France goes home early today, after a 2-0 loss to Italy combined with a 2-0 Netherlands win over Romania. Thierry Henry’s unfortunate deflection into his own goal was the nail that closed their coffin, and here, he knows it.

France got what they deserved. I’m happy that prick formerly known as Thierry Henry made a pathetic attempt at stopping a rocket of a shot and deflected it into his own net

what an idiot! did you see that attempt? he swung out his foot like it was coming from a 4 year old. either don’t touch it or get good contact.

Sure the first goal was the defender’s fault.. just let him shoot.. goalie might stop it. No point in giving out a penalty to Italy (90% chance of scoring) and getting a red-card. But it was Henry who broke the camel’s back

owned France!! pwned!
No more Zidane, Ribery injuried, jackass coach, NO CHANCE!

Ouch “I hate bad football”, that was harsh!! :) France had a mix of old-timers and inexperienced youngin’s with nothing in between. It’s time to let the old-timers go (thanks for the trophies guys!!!) and just take our lumps with all young guys, let them mature into the next champions and just hope they can do enough to get us to South Africa.

I’m glad it’s not Romania going thru, Italy-Spain is going to be incredible. And then, a Holland-Italy rematch would be amazing but so would Holland v Spain be.

Yeah, IHBF, I think you need to calm down a little bit. “They got what they deserved”? Yes, France played horribly this tournament by their own lofty standards, but I don’t think you are the ultimate judge of what any team deserves. And they did not get “pwned” as you’d like to think. Italy didn’t even score a goal from open play. They lost the game from their own bad decisions.

And Henry is not Prince; he is still known as Thierry Henry.

Dave… goals from free kicks are no worse than goal’s from “open play.” I hate that comparison since they practically are open play. Plus, Toni’s bringin down of the ball when the penalty was given was exquisite. If not taken down, he should’ve scored anyways (then again this IS Toni. If he’s good at one thing, it’s NOT scoring in major tournaments… lol) Nonetheless, Italy definitely played the better game. Hitting the post, that spectacular Buffon save. Let’s hope they continue their usual strategy by sucking to start off and slowly getting better with each passing game.

All this said, “I hate bad football’s” post was harsh and frakly rude and digusting. I hate people who can’t simply say “good game” either way and move on…

I blame it on 0 fighting spirit, and thats not a jab at the French either. I mean sure technique is nice, but the passion to play football especially for your country is all the motivation a player needs. France has too many Playgirls.

Don’t be so harsh on France. Losing Ribery was huge and the Henry deflection well, Panucci almost screwed Italy in the same way against Romania, shit happens.

Adam,

I agree, it is a lame comparison. I was mainly just irked at the Hateful One’s attitude. Italy did play they better game. My main point was that France dug their own grave.

Bye Bye Domenech! See you in hell!!!!!!

on the bright side, domenech will be gone so france can concentrate on developing a proper squad for 2010.

i mean, i’m happy that italy went through but if they somehow manage to go to the semis or final, it might give somebody the wrong idea that Donadoni is in fact fit to continue his tenure at the head of the azzuri, and then we would surely be fucked in 2010.

essentially what im saying is that this early defeat could be a blessing in disguise. whats winning the euro compared to a world cup title anyways? nothing.

I don’t even care who won this game, but I was just watching the replay on ESPN and the free kick DID NOT deflect off of Henry. It deflected off the player next to him, who stuck his foot out past Henry to deflect the ball. I slowed and replayed over and over and Henry’s foot is STILL ON THE GROUND as the ball sails past. Give me a break!

Kimberly’s right, I think. It actually looked like Benzema.

I only saw the live feed of the game and the immediate replay, and it looked like Henry to me, but I was also watching and blogging the other match at the same time, so I wouldn’t trust my eyes completely. If you guys saw Benzema’s foot, I’m sure it was that. Either way, the general point stands, and it was a disappointing day for Mr. Henry regardless.

Thanks for pointing it out.

People who bash (french team or others teams)should ask for at least three weeks or a month to rest before each international competition and they will see stars with their fit and no these kind of zombies. Even football players are human beeing and they often pay a very expensive price with their body this insane calendar. This is the only reason why usually good team become sudenly crap, and why mediocre players who are enable to shine in high level are able to make illusion in few international encounters;(Baros, koeller, all the greece team, David villa…)

On that note, that Benzema guy sucked the entire game save for one beautiful shot, which was beautifully deflected by that buffon guy. I expected way more out of this game from both sides. It’s almost like I was watching a bunch of second or third strings going at it.
