Germany, Spain, Portugal and Romania Notch Warmup Wins
There were some nice goals for Euro 2008 teams in today’s warmup friendlies, except France, who couldn’t manage one. They could have used the eye for goal of Croatian midfielder Niko Kovac (part of today’s Elderly Eleven), who pulled what I will now forever think of as a “Deivid”, scoring a goal and an own goal in the same match. The Spanish were saved by a last-second goal. The Romanians took a beat-stick (in the form of one Nicolae Dica) to the newest nation in football. Portugal sailed past Georgia. And, as you can see above, Michael Ballack helped Germany come back from an early deficit to beat Serbia in probably the match of the day. All the scores, and links to our reports, after the bump.
Germany 2-1 Serbia
Portugal 2-0 Georgia
Romania 4-0 Montenegro (My short report and links to highlights)
Hungary 1-1 Croatia (Mario’s Preview)
France 0-0 Paraguay (Laurie’s liveblog)
Spain 2-1 Peru (Cesar’s report)
