The Euro 2008 Predictor Bracket
Here at The Offside and World Cup Blog, we are doing everything we can to cover Euro 2008, the biggest football event of the summer. We have blogs for every team, liveblogs of every match, and constant reporting of all aspects of the tournament. And now we have a new feature for you, a bracket-style predictor contest where you can put your prediction skills to the test for some great prizes.
The Euro 2008 Predictor Bracket (available at http://bracket.worldcupblog.org) is now officially up and running, and will be accepting entries from now until the kickoff of the first match on June 7th. There’s no purchase necessary, no signups or anything like that. All you have to do is predict the final standings of each group, and which teams you expect to see in the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, and who you think will win Euro 2008. There’s a sliding scale of points, from 2 pts for a correct standing in the group stage, to 28 points for correctly predicting the winner. For that winner, we have a £100 voucher for UKSoccerShop.com. For those of you in the States (thank you, nosediving economy), that’s over $200. For the next three finishers, SoccerPro.com will provide national team jerseys from your choice of Euro 2008 teams.
There’s also a special prize for the group stage only. Nike has produced a limited number of special edition soccer boots just for Euro 2008. They have a special light blue cleat and will be worn on the pitch by some of Nike’s biggest stars in the tournament, and we have a pair to give away to the entry with the highest score at the end of the group stage. These are also provided by SoccerPro.com.
Check out the contest, and remember to get your bracket in before the contest ends. We’ll be posting a running leaderboard once results start to come in, and will be announcing all winners here on the site. Good luck.
One final note: Only one entry will be accepted per person. If you have multiple emails, it will technically be possible to enter more than once, but let’s be sporting about this, folks, and please enter only once. If we see any obvious cases of anyone entering several times (and I will be checking), we’ll remove all brackets after your first.
Fantastic. I’m going for a Portugal/Italy final. I’m also going to take a risk and say France to go out of the Group stage.

Drabik – with 120 total points, I think there will be a lot of separation between people. If we do have ties up top, we’ll have to think of some way to have tiebreakers at the end.
I hope that the bloggers can participate, I’m planning to win this. Alhough putting Poland in the semis might prove too optimistic.

Rob, with comments like this, I am afraid we cannot be friends.

I’m sorry Laurie, I thought you’d pick up on that! I’m just trying to be a bit different and take a few risks. Plus I have Benzema (I also had Mexés untill yesterday) in my fantasy team so I hope he does alright.

I choose a Spain-Portugal final. Also predicted France do not make it out of the group stage.

Spain-Portugal final would be the most exciting of the above proposed, no doubt.

Either Portugal or Germany have to make the final.. It’s too easy on that side..
The other side is tougher.. Spain, Italy, France.. ouch.. and Holland too (even tho I predict they finish bottom of the group..
)
France-Portugal final, with France winning it.

Just a minor suggestion, for future bracket contests a way to edit the list up to a deadline would be good. I had second thoughts as soon as I hit submit.

Yeah, Alan. In the future, we’ll get fancier with logins to change your brackets and things like that. This is our first time at this, so it’s a little simplified this time. Thanks for the suggestion. Look for it in the next contest.
ya, i think it’ll be Turkey-Croatia

I think that may be the case Robert, but I am most definately a Russian fan at present. Anyone that can dominate against a fantastic Holland team deserves nothing but praise!!

What are the odds for an Austria Switzerland final?
(I went for Germany – Holland)
Shame that this isnt a score predictor aswell, because some people are likely to get the same points.
