What’s That Song They Play After the Euro Goals?
Warning: Do not click “Play” unless you want a catchy Samba song stuck in your head for at least the next twenty-four hours. I speak from experience. You have been warned.
If you’ve been wondering about the song they play after all the goals in Euro 2008, wonder no more. It’s Samba de Janeiro, performed here by Bellini, but also done by several others.
A Samba song might seem like an odd choice for a European competition. But we like to think it’s there to make the five-and-a-half Brazilians in the tournament feel at home.
Slightly more PG-rated version, for the guys, is after the jump. Complete with lots of shaking…beads.
You’re welcome.
UPDATE: Reader “Deluxe” informs us that the song is actually a different version of the song known as “Samba e Gol,” from the 1998 World Cup. A Youtube search brings us this version. Where the music is equally catchy, and the shorts are very, very short.

I personally like “Seven Nation Army” by White Stripes when the teams are coming out to the pitch with everyone chanting along.

Jarred, Daryl just did a post on that yesterday, with lots of great videos, many of fans too drunk to walk, but not too drunk to sing that song.
Funny how that works.

It’s like the Brazilian ‘Macarana’ only with more thrusting.

Kevin, that was my thought as well! I almost put exactly that in the post.

Nice beads, Thanks Laurie!
You can’t go wrong with Samba.
I am getting seriously sick of that little Euroo 2008 TV jingle (at least they play it on ESPN and maybe others), it’s a little techno-style thing. Can’t stand it.

Despite the warnings, I clicked. Nice work, Laurie. I now have one serious ear worm. You were right. But what a song!

Haha, awesome, thanks Laurie! I don’t know how I missed that post!

As far as I’m aware, the song they actually play is “Samba E Gol”, which is a slightly different version of “Samba Di Janeiro”. You can find it in the France ‘98 soundtrack, “Allez! Ola! Olé!”

I recall that song playing in clubs in Asia in 1999. Ah, the memories…

Well, i actually think the version is played after a gol is samba by Bond, is the mix with electronic beat and violins.

See! Dan, that’s totally what I’ve been thinking since the tournament began. it sounds very similar to it. Are you another Bond fan as well? They’re one of my favorites.

I suppose they’re all pretty similar, but Bond’s version has the electronic edge to it.
