Will We See Bojan at Euro 2008?
One of the greatest things about international tournaments is seeing young talent burst onto the international scene. Remember Wayne Rooney announcing himself to the world at Euro 2004? One kid capable of doing something similar (or better) is Barcelona’s Bojan Krkić.
The 17-year-old attacking mid scored his first Champions League goal yesterday to give Barcelona a 1-0 win away to Schalke in the quarter final first leg, and making him the second youngest player ever to score in the tournament. Despite proving an able deputy for Leo Messi and arguably a more effective proposition than Ronaldinho in several impressive performances for Barca recently, Bojan is yet to appear for the Spanish national team.
He was called up for Spain’s friendly against France in February, but had to pull out with gastroenteritis. It was semi-expected that Bojan would get the nod and finally make his debut in Spain’s game against Italy this month, but when the squad was named he was nowhere to be seen.
His time will surely come sooner rather than later, but with Euro 2008 fast approaching and Spain not exactly short of attacking talent (even Raul is being ignored) I’m starting to wonder whether we’ll get to see Bojan light up Swissaustria this summer.
